A dark beer with mahogany reflections and a compact, cream-colored head, while the impact of the aroma of Leann Folláin is immediately bold, sweet and full of volume. The scents of roasted nuts, cacao, gianduja chocolate and coffee are a pure pleasure enticing you to drink the beer. There are also some smoky scents and notes of candied citrus peel and chestnut honey, all within a framework of distinct complexity. The mouthfeel is dense with a subtle carbonation, velvety and yet with an evident freshness. The after-aromas are consistent, rich and distinguished by a notes of cacao, coffee and a hint of licorice in the aftertaste. The compactness of the structure, as well as the assortment of aromas, do not make this a Stout to pair with oysters. It goes better with a beef stew cooked in the same beer, herb cheeses or with the traditional Irish potato-based dish Boxty. This would fit in with the famous jingle for this dish: “Boxty on the girdle, Boxty in the pan, if you can’t make boxty, you’ll never get your man”.
