Anche noi siamo Charlie!

I thought long and hard before writing this because others have written about it with much greater authority or, in any case, in a more appropriate way than a site dedicated to wine could ever hope to. But then again I, along with my staff, am involved with the world of wine and cannot help but feel close to a country that represents the top in regard to wine quality and culture. And then there is the fact that wine is something that unites those countries on the Old Continent that today are target of an Islamic-inspired terrorism that has nothing to do with the Muslim religion and its centuries-old tradition of peace and tolerance, a culture that produced people like the medieval scholar Averroes. It is as different as Nazism is from Christianity, just to cite an example. Wine is a culture that unites France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Hungary, Austria and those other countries in Europe that produce a high percentage of the world’s quality wine. And thus the world of wine cannot help but feel deeply about what happened in Paris which was an attack against the ideal of freedom, something that, not by chance, was born in our continent.
And so it is with pride, in the spirit of being part of an age-old cultural identity, as well as with sadness, emotion and firmness that we, the editorial staff of this small site dedicated to wine, can say that we, too, are Charlie!
