Vi aspettiamo! I faccini 2017 con 95/100

It is not often that we can meet ‘face-to-face’ with our readers who, among other things, have increased significantly in 2016. For this reason we look forward to seeing you October 8 in Milan, at the Principe di Savoia Hotel, and the 23rd in Rome at the Parco dei Principi Hotel for the tastings organized for the presentation of the new edition of our The Ultimate Guide to Italian Wine. This year we will be asking for a small contribution to take part, 15 euros or 12 euros for ONAV, AIS, Slow Food, FIS, ASPI and FISAR members as well as sector operators. This was done in order to create a ‘filter’ and avoid the entrance of people who come only to get drunk and create confusion, something which unfortunately occurred last year. It was also in response to a specific request from producers which we felt we could not refuse. In order to avoid any impression that we wish to profit from this, the entry fee to these fantastic tastings will include a free copy of the Guide and a personalized Doctor Wine glass, the combined value of which more than compensates the cost of the ticket. I sincerely hope you all understand this and will join us in number, as appears to be the case based on reservations received so far. It will be a great party. This year’s edition is very lovely and has been published without the support of Mondadori, which was very important for the first to editions, and thus we will be on our own on the market. We have also reduced the guide’s price from 24 to 15 euros and hope to sell well at newsstands as well as in select book shops. You can also acquire the guide online from our website and we will pay for shipping. These are a few courtesies that we hope you will appreciate. The guide is a little bigger this year and includes close to 1,000 producers with over 200 wines singled out with Doctor Wine ‘faccini’ (hedcuts) for their quality. We tasted almost 8,000 wines for the guide from which selected only about a third. We were severe yet professional and fair in our evaluations and our ‘team’ worked well with a passion and dedication for which I wish to thank them all. In Milan I will be calling to the stage above all the ladies of Doctor Wine and some may be surprised by how many there are. Our guide, in fact, has the highest number of women contributing to it than any other on the world wine scene, which is still dominated by men. This is something I am particularly pleased and proud about. The participation of women in producing the guide was anything but token. It was decisive and enhanced the final product thanks to their sensitivity and different way of looking at things. They are all highly trained professionals who at Doctor Wine receive all the respect, consideration and space they deserve. We all hope to see you soon so we can meet and exchange views on these splendid wines offered by producers who wanted to be part of and support our project regardless of whether or not they were awarded prizes or singled out. And this also because with Doctor Wine they can feel at ease in a pleasant atmosphere without feeling the pressure of being judged and ranked. While it is true that this is what we do, we do so openly, with a readiness to listen and with a smile. And that’s the way it should be.
