Vini rari doctorwine

There are some extraordinary wines of which only a few hundred bottles are produced. These are unique wines, almost impossible to find, which have achieved cult-like status but we should not consider them to be wines to collect but rather to drink, if we get the chance.

By rare wines I mean those that are produced in small numbers, made with grapes from small vineyards or for special occasions and which are very difficult to find. Here are some examples.

Chianti Classico Grand Selezione Lo Chiamavano Trinità is a wine that Rocca delle Macie owner Sergio Zingarelli wanted to dedicate to the 50th anniversary of the film of the same name that his father Italo had produced. Blanko di Macondo, from a very small winery in the Marche region and produced in very small numbers. Also from the Marche is Kupra Oasi degli Angeli while from Trentino comes Vin de la Neu, a spectacular white wine made with Piwi grapes by Nicola Blasi.

The last rare wine I had the opportunity to taste was truly splendid. It was produced by Le Corti dei Principi Corsini, in Chianti Classico, and it was dedicated to the memory of Filippo Corsini, the son of Duccio and Clotilde, who died prematurely and tragically several years ago. He had begun to make his own wine and as a dedicated biodynamic farmer he did everything possible to make his wine the most eco-sustainable and “natural” as possible. This meant no sulfites, spontaneous fermentation and so on. His friends and parents wanted to continue making it the way he would have and called it Fico, the name he had chosen, with just over 1,000 bottles produced. Sangiovese Fico 2020 is spectacular, a wine with extraordinary character, very varietal and really very good. A great wine. The best way to remember Filippo.
