Jankara: a granite Vermentino di Gallura

Following his return to Gallura, Renato Spanu began producing a saline and lively Vermentino full of personality.
After 25 years working in the United States in the wine distribution and restaurant sectors, Renato Spanu decided to definitively return to Sardinia where in 2006 he founded the wine estate Jankara in Gallura. The name is the combination of the names of the areas Jannaca and Karana where his grandfather had his vineyards.
The vineyards producing Vermentino are on Lake Liscia, between Sant’Antonio Luras and Calagianus in an area called Vena di San Leonardo. Here there are granite hills typical to Gallura with a particular microclimate that has sharp diurnal temperature variations. The white wine from here is sapid and lively, unmistakably Gallurese, without any concession to certain passing fads that involve leaving conspicuous amounts of sugar residue, something that unfortunately many wines from the same appellation do. The following is a vertical tasting of all the vintages produced so far.
