Not just bubbly
Over the past five years, Monsupello has proved to be one of the most interesting wineries in Italy despite being in an area, Oltrepo Pavese, which has certainly not stood out for innovation in recent decades. Pierangelo Boatti and his sister Laura are the third generation of their family to run this estate and have brought it to the attention of wine lovers throughout Italy.
Traditional method sparkling wines are the estate’s feather in the cap and their top quality is matched by their extremely affordable price. However, the estate also produces some fine still wines.
The grapes for the Riesling below are grown in a soil that has some clay and the Guyot-trained vines have a density of around 4,000 rootstocks per hectare with grass left to grown between the rows. The wine ages on the lees in stainless steel for around a month.
