Nella giara dell'Impruneta

If you have never been to the Val d’Orcia in central Tuscany you really should plan to spend a weekend there. The valley is full of magnificent places and in 2004 UNESCO proclaimed it a World Heritage Site, recognizing it as ”an exceptional example of how a natural landscape was redesigned during the Renaissance to reflect the ideals of good governance and to create an aesthetically pleasing picture”.

In this Renaissance reality, Marco Capitoni, his wife Antonella and their son Angelo work their farm cultivating wheat and producing wine in an almost ancient way.

This spring their showcase wines Capitoni and Frasi were joined by a 100% Sangiovese that ages in amphoras. The choice of amphoras was not to be trendy, as the price demonstrates, but made after several attempts in Marco’s quest for a container that best exalted the aromas and freshness that grapes from a single plot in his vineyard could give a wine.
