Discovering Albanella
Fattoria Mancini is a family owned winery established in 1861. Unlike many area of Marches the main grape variety planted in their vineyard is Pinot Noir. Around 1810 the Napoleonic administrations identify the area as one of the best for the cultivation of Pinot Noir. Alongside Pinot Noir, Luigi Mancini cultivates also Sangiovese and the local grape varities Albanella (white) and Ancellotta (red).
The vineyard of Albanella lies in the town of Roncaglia surrounding the San Bartolo Natural Park.
In the past Albanella was confused with Trebbiano Toscano. Most of the producers started to explant Albanella but the Mancinis believed that their grapes looked and behaved nothing like Trebbiano and they managed to rescue the local Albanella.
Albanella produces a fresh and mineral white wine and in good vintages the wine can age very well.
