tedeschi vini veneto vigneti

Corvina is a very interesting grape both in its youthful expressions and in aging. Let's talk about Valpolicella Classico Lucchine 2019 Tedeschi and Corvina Veronese Ca' Nova 2016 Gorgo.

The province of Verona is one of the most important from the point of view of Italian wine production, not only for the Amarone phenomenon, which has conquered so many international palates, but also because in an increasingly "white" Veneto (the gap has reached 81% of white wine production against 19% red) Verona holds high the flag of the great reds of the region.  Very interesting are the infinite facets with which its main red grape, corvina, is presented. From Bardolino, on Lake Garda, to Amarone della Valpolicella.

Today we would like to introduce you to two Veronese reds which share a common matrix but are different in terms of grapes (the first is a pure corvina, the second is a blend of the indigenous grapes that usually accompany it) and territory (the first comes from the Custoza area, the second from Valpolicella). What they all have in common is their excellent drinkability and a very convenient price.

Of the two wineries considered, the first one is Gorgo winery in Custoza, today managed by Roberta Bricolo. The winery was established in 1975 with 22 hectares of vineyards, now there are 53 hectares and all of them are certified organic. The winery's headquarter includes a main building in the old farmhouse and the new design winery, very modern and functional. Vineyards are mainly located around the winery and are mainly produced in Custoza and Bardolino. Wines are of modern style as for cleanliness and management in the vineyard whereas they do not betray the territorial origins as for style. The winery is also known for a legal action Michelin Tyres took, and lost, against one of their wines cru of Custoza called San Michelin, a toponym of the winery having deep historical roots.

Moving to Valpolicella, instead, we find a winery with very ancient roots. Four centuries of wine history, vineyards owned since 1630 and a predilection for the grapes of the territory: corvina, rondinella and molinara. Vineyards are trained with the Veronese pergola system. Among the cru there are Capitel Monte Olmi, produced from the homonymous vineyard in Pedemonte di Valpolicella, and Maternigo, produced in the eastern part of Valpolicella. Tedeschi family has certifications for sustainable viticulture according to Biodiversity Friend and Equalitas standards. Sustainability is one of the key trends of the market, an imperative that, applied throughout the production chain and not in watertight compartments, can create value and really reduce environmental impact and strengthen biodiversity.
