Cirò Riserva 2018: a great drinking

Although Calabria is not at the top of the thoughts of wine lovers, it offers us pearls of indisputable goodness at very affordable prices. We chose two classics not to be missed: Duca San Felice by Librandi and Volvito by Caparra & Siciliani.
The Cirò appellation runs along the Ionian coast in the province of Crotone, in the "heel" of Calabria, and represents the fulcrum of the region's viticulture. Plains and hills close to the sea are fragmented into a wide variety of sub-zones, each with its own character and peculiarities. In this area operate the historical producers of Calabrian viticulture, among which we have selected two: Librandi and Caparra & Siciliani.
Librandi is by far the most famous and successful Calabrian winery for quality. It is in the sure hands of Nicodemo Librandi, an esteemed wine entrepreneur, helped by the new generation: his sons Raffaele and Paolo and his nephews Francesco and Teresa. The wines are made with a technical skill, which makes them internationally appreciable.
Caparra & Siciliani is famous as well and has passed half century of history, for many years has represented one of the few established points of reference in the area of Cirò. Today it continues to produce wines that are well-made and economical due to the constant research and innovation in the cellar and the great exposition of the vineyards that look east on smooth hills degrading towards the sea.
