Verdicchio Vicari, straightforward and refreshing

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico del Pozzo Buono 2015 from Vicari is a wine that well represents the area of Morro d’Alba, known for its floral and delicate whites.
Nowhere is it written that an estate’s style must be carved in stone and, in fact, even leading producers in the best areas change it.
Morro d’Alba is situated in the northeast part of Castelli di Jesi and while this is an area of Verdicchio, the town is much better known for its Lacrima Morro d’Alba, a very dark and extremely fragrant red wine.
Production at the Vicari estate is more or less equally divided between Lacrima and Verdicchio but in recent years it has drawn the most attention for its white wine following a change in the winemaking style. Up until a few years ago the emphasis was on volume and richness but now it more on straightforwardness. This has made the estate one of the leading producers of Verdicchio di Morro d’Alba with wines that are floral and rich and do not need that many years to reach their peak, less time that wines from higher altitudes. At the same time, however, one need not fear opening a bottle that is 4-6 years old, especially if it is an excellent vintage, like 2015.
