It is easy to say Lambrusco

I love lambrusco

We are used to talk about Lambrusco, but under this name there are also very different varieties.

It is by far the most common vine in the whole plain of Emilia, where Lambrusco vineyards extend from the western outskirts of Bologna to the outskirts of the province of Parma. However, it is also possible to find Lambrusco in the lowlands of Mantua and even in some areas of Trentino, where it is mainly used for the production of new wines.

Currently the family of Lambrusco has about 60 sub-varieties. The most important ones are, however, Lambrusco Salamino, Lambrusco Marani, Lambrusco Maestri, Lambrusco Montericco and Lambrusco di Sorbara, which is probably the most famous and common of them all. From these varieties derive the four main DOC Lambrusco wines currently produced in Emilia: Sorbara, Grasparossa di Castelvetro, Salamino di Santacroce, and Reggiano, the latter obtained by blending different sub-varieties.

We are proposing three Lambruscos of different varieties and from different areas, because we are convinced everyone can find the ideal Lambrusco for his or her taste.

Let's start from the most famous one, Sorbara, with Alberto and Barbara Paltrinieri's winery in Cristo di Sorbara, the heart of the appellation. Paltrinieri is one of those examples where the uncompromising level of craftsmanship, expertise and passion can achieve results that are nothing short of extraordinary. From the super selections of Sorbara with the classic natural fermentation in bottle to the very rare, for the area, pure Salamino, the result changes little: they are wines of pure expression of a great territory fortunately entrusted in the hands of a good producer.

Let's move on to a Lambrusco Reggiano and precisely to Concerto by Medici Ermete. Medici Ermete has succeeded in creating a microcosm of quality in a reality such as the one of the province of Reggio Emilia, historically oriented to big numbers and to a care of wines more related to mass consumption than to quality. Today it is a consolidated reality with important numbers, as well as the quality of its wines is recognized all over the world. By making use of rigorous selections and technically advanced protocols, the winery is able to express wines of extreme pleasantness and good structure.

Let's end with an incursion in Lombardy, in the countryside of Poggio Rusco, in the Oltre Po area of Mantua. The philosophy of Accorsi brothers, owners of Fondo Bozzole, apparently extreme of "organic farmers without compromises", hides a great capacity of integrating with environment and nature. Every year they improve technically and have reached a commendable form of oenological expressiveness: low yields for the type (60-70 quintals per hectare, less than half of the maximum allowed by the regulations), maniacal care for the vineyard and the nature that welcomes it. Even the agronomic techniques make them revolutionary: guyot training system, a rare example for the area and the typology.
