A pink heart for lovers

On the occasion of Valentine's Day, rosé wines are drunk, in the (false) belief that they are the wines most liked by women. Whatever the excuse, we suggest 5 to uncork in sweet company and we guarantee you will not regret it.
Whether it's because "he" thinks he's making "she" happy or the exact opposite, uncorking a bottle of rosé on Lovers' Day is a good excuse, especially since these we present are wines of sure quality.
We focused on the rosés of the South, fishing not only in Puglia, in Salento, the recognized home of a type and style that have always conquered Italy, but also in the other historic region for the production of rosés, Abruzzo, with a Cerasuolo Doc that comes from the Colline Teramane, and ending with a Gaglioppo Rosato representing another southern region, Calabria, where the culture of rosés is growing.
Let's start with the pioneers of Salento rosés: the Leone De Castris winery in Salice Salentino, whose historic Five Roses we propose. Piernicola Leone de Castris is the heir to this dynasty of winemakers, whose origins date back at least three centuries, and who have made a decisive contribution to vine and wine culture in Puglia. Today he leads a modern and efficient winery that churns out fine labels and honors its historic roots.
Not far from here we find Cantele, whose Rohesia 2021 we chose. The company is less than 40 years old, but over time it has carved out a role for itself as an absolute protagonist in the Salento world. Credit to the founders, Giovan Battista and Teresa, and today to their grandchildren and heirs, with Gianni Cantele at the forefront of the technical realization of the wines.
About ten kilometers away is Castello Monaci, of which Vitantonio Seracca Guerrieri and his wife Lina Memmo, the last heir of the ancient owners, are the lucky castellans. Castello Monaci is a fortified structure dating back to the 16th century, and has been restored several times. All around are vineyards as far as the eye can see, some 210 hectares, now cared for by Gruppo Italiano Vini, which also handles wine production and marketing. Introducing Kreos 2021.
Going back up to Abruzzo, we find the Prope winery, which is more than just the Abruzzi annex of the Velenosi winery in Ascoli, Marche. It is now an autonomous winery in terms of winery facilities and, of course, vineyards, all located in the Colline Teramane area near Controguerra, right on the heights overlooking the Abruzzo side of the Tronto River. Here the Montepulciano grape variety reigns supreme and is obviously also the protagonist of this Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo 2020.
We close by moving from the Adriatic shore to the land between the two seas, Calabria, to find in Contrada Montino in Altomonte the Terre di Balbìa farm, practically halfway between the Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas. Giuseppe Chiappetta with his sons Marco and Luca and his brother Nicola is primarily committed to the enhancement of native Gaglioppo and Magliocco vines, with the help of the firm Simonit & Sirch for the vineyards and the Apulian winemaker and winemaker Gianfranco Fino in the cellar. From them we chose Ligrezza 2021.
