Silvana Raniolo e Giovanni Calcaterra Tenuta Bastonaca

The estate of Silvana Raniolo and Giovanni Calcaterra has a total of 17 hectares of vineyards in two different DOC appellations.

Tenuta Bastonaca is an estate that is present in two different areas of southeastern Sicily: in Vittoria, the main center of production with 15 hectares of vineyards and an 18th century palm grove; and on Etna where they have an old, two-hectare vineyard. Silvana Raniolo and Giovanni Calcaterra embarked on this enterprise a few years ago with the intention of producing quality wines that respected nature and the particular characteristics of the territory to the utmost.

Work in the vineyards is done by hand and no irrigation is carried out. Their collaboration with enologist Carlo Ferrini is a significant plus for production. The various wines produced are distinguished by their natural expressiveness and ability to please.

Etna Bianco 2017

89/100 - € 28

Made from Carricante grapes and matured on the lees in stainless steel for 12 months. The wine has a bold, straw-yellow color with golden reflections. The intense and varied bouquet has scents of gorse, chamomile, anise, a faint note of honey and a hint of pine bark. The fresh mouthfeel is well-structured, flavorful and long.

Cerasuolo di Vittoria 2016

89/100 - € 14

A blend of 50% Nero d’Avola and 50% Frappato that matures for six months in stainless steel. The color is a slightly pale ruby-red and the clean aroma has notes of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, rose and sensations of black pepper. The mouthfeel is fresh with a nice consistency and balance, soft and long with delicate tannins.

Sicilia Nero d'Avola 2018

87/100 - € 12

Made from Nero d’Avola grapes and matured for four months in stainless steel. The wine has a pale, ruby-red color and a varietal aroma with scents of fruit, prune and strawberry in particular. The dynamic mouthfeel is fruity, immediate, easy to drink and discreetly long.
