Welcome back Agostina Pieri
The Agostina Pieri estate faces Mt. Amiata from the southwest corner of Montalcino where a small niche of land in front of the Orcia River has a soil that is less sandy than the surrounding area. The zone is warm and sunny.
The estate came into the limelight at the end of the 1990s with some fantastic Montalcino reds with a great propensity to age. In the following decade the Brunello wines were a bit muscular with warm notes that tended to make the wine seem simpler while the use of wood, small barrels and often new wood, did not help the drinkability.
In more recent years, the wine has improved stylistically becoming less muscular and, above all, with more intact aromas, the result of the winery coming up to speed and the new generation improving its skills. This Brunello 2011 impressed us with this new style that worked well even in a hot year.
