Valle dell’Acate and its great Frappato

Frappato is an interesting varietal and it is wonderfully interpreted by Gaetana Jacono and Francesco Ferri at the Valle dell’Acate estate.
The Jacono family, today represented by Gaetana, has been involved in wine for six generations in this magnificent corner of Sicily centered around the town of Vittoria in the province of Ragusa.
The diversity of the soils and the expertise of man have made this small valley a paradise that Gaetana and her business partner Francesco Ferri are committed to protecting. The estate’s buildings are well kept, with a palm grove that descends to the plain below and looks like a cathedral that is home to the fruits produced by the estate’s 100 hectares of land.
Among the various wines the estate produces, I was particularly impressed by the Frappato, an example of how this varietal is an authentic pearl of Sicilian winemaking. Here the grape is cultivated in a dark soil rich in white pebbles creating a synergy that is evident above all in the aroma of this excellent wine.
Among the Frappato we tasted during Sicilia en Primeur 2018 this is the one we loved more and that we consider to be the best interpretation of this grape.
