Beloved Inferno

Valtellina wine has an innate aromatic purity and there is no doubt that the terroir here is one of the most important in Italy. On the side facing south of this mountain valley that runs east-west, Chiavennasca, the local name for Nebbiolo, is able to transmit the light and the rocks the vines grow in. Rocks that are so hard and compact that they are able to retain the heat of the sun and warm for the cru Inferno, named for the temperature of its particular microclimate, allowing this Valtellina wine to be more available and communicative.
Rainoldi’s reserve wine is made using small barrels but even the most intransigent Nebbiolo lovers can rest assured: the character of the wine is not only not overshadowed nor stiffened but, in fact, seems exalted. This confirms how it is always difficult to generalize when it comes to the rapport between the grape and the use of wood.
