An ancient and ‘new’ style
Banfi is a name that needs no presentation. It was the generator of the worldwide success of Brunello di Montalcino and the Mariani family winegrowing and making enterprise has expanded its holdings in Tuscany acquiring land and vineyards in Bolgheri, Maremma, Chianti and Chianti Classico.
Its latest creation, presented last week, can be considered a homage to Tuscan winemaking. It is a wine made using a Tuscan approach to the ancient Governo method that dates back to the late Middle Ages and involves a slow refermentation of the wine after it was made using slightly raisinated grapes.
This first vintage was produced in Montalcino with a production of 24,000 bottles which they plan to expand in the future to 50-60,000 bottles using, if necessary, Sangiovese grapes from their other estates.
