A rich Mediterranean blend
The name Capalbio brings to mind the getaway for the radical chic that is not too far from Rome but far enough to avoid the masses that have invaded the capital’s suburbs. But this aside, Maremma is first and foremost an agricultural area, one with a landscape that has seduced even entrepreneurs from other sectors. A case in point is Ilaria Pietromarchi, who after earning a degree in statistics in Rome, specialized in economics in the United States. Together with her husband Massimo Tosato, she decided to invest in a farm in Capalbio.
The farm became Villa Pinciana and today is composed of 54 hectares of land of which nine are vineyards that were planted in 2003 with a variety of grapes. These are for the most part Cabernet (Sauvignon and Franc) but there are also parcels of Petit Verdot, Syrah and Pugnitello along with the whites Vermentino and Viognier. The vineyards have a good exposure, the winery is modern and the wines are all well-made and have a Mediterranean personality. With its attention to the land and eye on pleasing, this is an estate that will stand out more and more in the future.
