A mono-varietal Grenache
Chapel Hill is one of the most interesting winery in McLaren Vale. The estate was named after the 1865 ironstone chapel that now is used as the house tasting room. The first vineyard was planted in 1973 however the first vintage was produced six years later.
The king grape variety of the region is definitively Shiraz; Grenache is mainly used as backbone of the usual blend SGM (Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre). Many producers are now trying to vinify Grenache as mono-varietal and the results are surprisingly good.
