A Magnus of Fortuna

Fortuna is a small estate in Montalcino that along with its better-known vintage Brunello, Brunello Riserva and Giobi selection also produces a delicious Sant’Antino Rosso: Magnus.
Located in the northern part of the Montalcino district and better-known for its Brunello wines, Fortuna also makes a wine that is slightly different from the others of the zone. Magnus, in fact, is a Sant’Antino DOC, an appellation created in the 1990s for wines made with grapes other than Sangiovese. Gioberto Zannoni and his son Angelo have focused their experiments on Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon that were planted in a clay soil that is not particularly good for Sangiovese.
The small estate also had vineyards in the southern part of Montalcino but the grapes for this new project are from vineyards situated around the winery’s headquarters situated in the upper part of Canalicchi known as Cottimelli. The climate here is cooler and the greater difference in temperature between day and night enhance the character of the varietals.
