A fresh white from San Miniato

The Agrisole estate is in San Miniato, Tuscany, on hills that have a south and south-west exposure. The soil there is mostly clay but still rich in tuff stone and sand and thus retains water to allow the vines to better survive droughts. The estate was founded in 2003, itself a hot and dry year, by Gerardo and Concetta Caputo who have now been joined by their children in their production of wines exclusively from native grapes. While young, the siblings have a managerial flair and have begun to run the estate. Federico is responsible for the technical side, Fabio handles sales and Martina is in charge of hospitality. The first two letters of their names combine to create the name of the Mafefa line which includes a white wine, which we review here, and a red made from native grapes. The estate’s core business is its very pleasing Chianti San Miniatello and production includes a line of single-variety wines grapes from the oldest vines: Sangiovese, Malvasia Nera and Trebbiano. Acting as consultants are enologist Emiliano Falsini and agronomist Stefano Dini, who works in the vineyard.
