Pallagrello bianco and the Oca Guardiana: Aia delle Monache

The small Aia delle Monache estate, in the province of Caserta, produces an interesting Pallagrello Bianco: L’Oca Guardiana che Dorme (Sleeping Guardian Goose) 2016.

The new and small Aia delle Monache estate has an interesting story behind it that began when brothers Michele and Vittorio Verzillo bought two small vineyards, for a total of 2.5 hectares. They were planted 15 years ago in the farming area of Castel Campagnano with the native grapes Casavecchia and Pallagrello Bianco and Nero. The brothers fell in love with the hill the vineyards are on that from one side has a view of the Matese massif and on the other Mt. Taburno. The view is further embellished by a convent, known as the Ermo di Santa Maria degli Angeli, which serves as a backdrop for the vineyards.

2016 was the first harvest with the importance consultancy of enologist Gennaro Reale, who has followed the project from the start. The four wines they produce today, as evidenced by the graphics of the labels, tell the story of people, places and customs. Annual production is in the neighborhood of 10,000 bottles divided between two whites made from Pallagrello Bianco, a red made from Casavecchia and another from Pallagrello Nero.
