Castellare turns 50

Castellare di Castellina has passed the half-century mark and has definitely shown itself to be one of the best estates in Chianti Classico, as demonstrated by this I Sodi di San Niccolò 2013.
Castellare di Castellina this year turned 50, an important milestone filled with successes. These successes are not surprising considering the maniacal care shown during every stage of estate production, be it agricultural, commercial or in regard to marketing: a lovely example being their beautiful wine labels, all with a bird or floral theme.
The estate is located in the heart of Chianti Classico and today consists of 32 hectares of vineyards divided between four farms: Castellare, Caselle, San Niccolò and Le Case. Since he founded it the 1970s, Paolo Panerai’s goal has been to produce 100% Tuscan wines but with an international profile and quality. Thus for philosophical reasons he has chosen to safeguard the Tuscan nature of his wines, preferring to use Sangiovese and the lesser-known Malvasia Nera, as is the case with this wine.
