It wasn’t enough to produce great Taurasi: now Gerardo Perillo has set out to produce a white wine on the island of Capri.

There is a bridge that connects two excellent locations: the island of Capri, known throughout the world for its beauty, and Castelfranci, known among wine lovers for its production of unforgettable Taurasi wines. And that bridge is called wine.

Gerardo Perillo is the owner and enologist at the winery named after him in Castelfranci which was set up in 2013 to carry on a family tradition: producing typical Irpinia wines. The vineyards are located near the winery and have vines planted before the phylloxera plague that are trained using original and typical methods, including alberate taurasine.

For a few years now, Gerardo has been involved in a new project on Capri, an island that has always had deep winemaking roots to the extent that in 1977 it was the first area in the Campania region to receive a DOC classification. From a small vineyard on Anacapri, Gerardo produces a very limited number of bottles of a single wine, a fascinating white with an aroma of dried salt. See if you can find a bottle.
