Bosco Donne and the Barbera of Gianni Doglia

Gianni Doglia produces five Barbera: three d’Asti, one Monferrato and one Nizza. Here we have selected a Bosco Donne 2016, a Barbera d’Asti with a thick and juicy texture.
Gianni Doglia is the third generation of his family to produce wine. And he does so in a dynamic and modern way without distorting the terroir and style of the hills the grapes grow on. His estate is in Castagnole delle Lanze, between the Langhe and Monferrato, where the soil is chalky clay and there is strong and healthy ventilation.
The estate has 10 hectares of vineyards that produce some 70,000 bottles a year of classic local wines. There are two Moscato – wine the estate is best known for – a Grignolino and then the Barbera. Aside from the Nizza there are four other Barbera, perhaps too many, two are every day wines (a Monferrato and a d’Asti) and the other two - Bosco Donne, which we review here, and one dedicated to Gianni’s grandfather Genio, both of which matured in wood – are higher quality wines.
The following wine was a lovely discovery made during the Barbera 360° event organized by Wine Zone.
