Made from Nebbiolo grapes cultivated in the Vigna Rionda vineyard in the commune of Serralunga d’Alba. After the ’96, this is the most interesting vintage of recent years. It has a garnet colour of good depth and austere, complex perfumes, with an evident liquorice note to the fore and underlying hints of violets and sour cherries. The flavour is forthright, with dense, abundant tannins that dominate on the palate but are tamed to some degree by rich fruit that lends it power and longevity. The finish displays excellent length. Serve it at 20°C with roast kid, game or very mature Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.
