Pallagrello is an unusual Italian grape because it has both a white and a red variety. Its name refers to the grapes themselves which look like small balls. The wine is also known as the ‘King’s Wine’ because it was the favorite of the Bourbon King of Naples Ferdinand IV who had it planted in his own, personal vineyard, Vigna del Ventaglio, which was divided into ten equal plots of which two were dedicated to Palllagrello in its respective versions.
Verginiano is made from 100% Pallagrello Bianco grapes picked in the first ten days of September 2014 and the wine fermented and aged in stainless steel vats. It has a straw-yellow color and citrusy and fresh aromas. The mouthfeel is clean, saline and slightly minty and has an excellent acidity. Production: 5,000 bottles a year.
