Made from only Sangiovese grapes. This also came from Sant’Angelo in Colle but slightly more to the north. The Lisini are historic winegrowers in Montalcino but they only began to bottle their own wines in 1974. Their Ugolaia is a ‘single vineyard’ wine and this vintage had a very bright, garnet color. The bouquet was wrapping and mellow with scents of black cherry and wild strawberry on top of notes that were smoky and initially a bit reduced. The mouthfeel of this vintage was a bit more tannic than the others, which seemed more elegant, but this roughness is temporary because the wine only needs a few more years in the bottle. The finish was long and persistent.
