Made mostly from Sangiovese with a small addition of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in barriques and large barrels. The sun has set on the bouquet which is now of dried flowers, dates and cooked prunes, together with Mediterranean nuances of capers and dried tomatoes. The acidity is still good in the mouth and the aftertaste is of underbrush and bark.
Melancholy, the Mediterranean, craftsmanship and inquietude. This is associated with Van Gogh , his Portrait of Doctor Gachet, the glassy eyes reflecting the painter’s melancholy and a resignation to an inevitable fate.
