The eighth vintage of Belle Époque from Hervé Deschamps, 2006 was a great year for Chardonnay and was very diverse weather-wise with a cold and dry winter, a mild spring, a hot June and cooler temperatures during the rest of the summer and a sunny September. The classic Belle Époque blend (50% Grand Cru Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier) had a dosage of 9g/l and in the glass it demonstrates all its generosity. The bold aroma has notes of star anise and dried fruit, elder essence, salty caramel and pear compote, almond cookies and candied citrus peel. The mouthfeel is full and rich, with the delicate spice of barley cookies and a finish of grapefruit with a bitter touch of tamarind. A broad Champagne with a distinct and full structure, where the texture prevails over the tension.
