While not as lovely as the 2008, this wine nevertheless expresses the intensity and complexity of its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Aglianico. The grapes are grown and the wine produced just a few kilometers from Salerno, in the town of San Cipriano Picentino. Here the soil is mixed and somewhat stony while the climate is mild and influenced by the sea. The wine’s usual depth and intensity here are a little weaker and there are some ethereal notes from the nuances of minerals, graphite, tobacco and sweet spice. My only regret was not being able to try some even older vintages which, I am convinced, would have been quite an experience.
