This was a difficult year weatherwise due to frequent spring rains and a variable summer but conditions improved towards the end of the growing season and it was possible to delay harvest until mid-October to allow the grapes to achieve excellent maturity. The wine was again just Sangiovese that ages for 18 months in barriques but although the color was still ruby it was less bold. The intense aroma has ripe fruit, sweet spices like vanilla and cinnamon, hints of almond and carob and whiffs of underbrush. The mouthfeel is very young and while there is a note of wood that still needs to be absorbed there is also a lot of fruit, a nice body and lovely progression.
