Long before 1971 and 1990, 1964 had the reputation of being the vintage of the century in Italy.
The wine still had a ruby color that had only partially become garnet while the aroma was ‘elegantly rustic’ with scents of bitter tobacco, damp earth and smoke. The mouthfeel was lively and rich, with a very subtle yet tenacious finish and an aftertaste of macerated cherry. While less ‘emotional’ than the 1975 this was a greater wine. As with the 1975 vintage, this wine came from yields of 10,000kg with 900 vines per hectare. The wine is no longer available retail.
