The weather this year was certainly not favorable for the winery’s sober style with a hot and dry late summer. And in fact, the color is distinct, not very nervous, without any heaviness. The bouquet is not crystal clear (although you might not notice) with a note of anise that is a tad rustic, some ripe fruit and a pleasing and even sweet note of peat. The mouthfeel is very rich, strong but without any structural excesses, with some fruit that is a bit ripe and a very bold and slightly warm finish which is neither drying nor burning but very scented. This will not last ten years but if you like a bold Verdicchio then you will like this one. The winery itself was pleased with the outcome while those who prefer a sharp, cutting, lemon edge should pass.
