It is not every day that one gets to sample a Jesi reserve the way it should be tasted. Due to a prejudice that is hard to reverse among consumers and severely misinformed international critics, the best whites of this area (and the same can be said of other Italian whites, from Irpinia to Timorasso) tend to get written off even before they reach their peak. This 2008 has a bright, golden straw-yellow color, full of acidic reflections and an aroma that continuously alternates notes of hydrocarbons and honey around a perfectly expressed bouquet of almond and anise and the usual touch of salt water. The mouthfeel is very fragrant, suffused and modulated while the finish is so honey-like it seems almost snappy, exquisite with an important persistence. A silent Verdicchio but one with traction, which in Italian can translate Cingoli. A Tavignano in its purest form.
