This producer makes some very fine wines but Mael is the winery’s soul. The grapes come from a very particular vineyard, dazzling in its candor and lethal with so many rocks. The sharp variations in temperatures produce grapes which the winery has used wisely, as demonstrated by creating Mael. This is an extreme wine with intense citrus aromas, pink and yellow grapefruit, citron and a fresh note of fern and mint, along with floral scents of gorse. The mouthfeel is sharp, refined with a magnificent acidity that while intense is not isolated. The progression, persistence and finish are all excellent and perfectly correspond with the aroma. In the cellar we also tasted some older vintages which were incredible for how fresh they still were.
