A blend of 85% Montepulciano and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon the grapes for which are hand-picked and soft pressed with only the free-run must is used to make the wine. It is subject to a daily delestage fermentation and maceration technique and microoxygenation before the wine ages 30 months in new-wood barriques. The wine has an almost black color with a purple edge and the nose is fresh and clean, truly complex, with notes of Marasca cherry and currant and a hint of coffee. The mouthfeel is quite concentrated and dry and the tannins very complex, while the aftertaste is loose, fresh and profound. This is rare for reds from the area which due to all the extracts tend to go astray. The wine has a long and radiant future but is already irresistible.
At 40 euros a bottle the price is ambitious but justifiable.
