Loreto Brunello di Montalcino 2008

Hats off to the Illy staff and, above all, to Andrea Machetti, who has always been the winery's soul. With this excellent second vintage, Brunello Loreto has placed itself among the best wines of 2008. It faithfully reflects the area of Castelnuovo and the Mastrojanni style with a color that is not too intense and muscular but bright and intact. The aroma is clear and classic with nicely ripe cherry and a little smokiness. The flavor has a nice impact with a very 'estate' and territorial tannic streak that is still young and steep yet nicely compact. It has a good substance and progression that in the finish has some licorice and almost jam-like fruit.
