I had this just a couple of weeks ago during a CCCP dinner. The bottle was wrapped in foil for a blind tasting. But how could I not recognize this dense and explosive nectar of Bacchus? How could I not notice its irrepressible aroma of ripe fruit, the plumpness and sensuality of titanic fruit, the ferocious tannins which elegantly envelope you palate and which with age are gradually getting softer? You cannot not recognize Kurni, in fact everyone recognized it immediately. Actually one of us did not on the alleged grounds that to him it seemed to be much drier than the aged Kurni he had had in the past (including another 2004 I tasted exactly a year ago). It is perhaps the case that we mention the enormous difference between young Kurni, not so young Kurni and aged Kurni, where the time factor plays a very important role, perhaps more than for other wines. In regard to this particular Kurni, seven years of aging has still not brought it to full maturity, but it is still incredibly good and really enjoyable.
