This is a great vintage that many have judged very severely. At the risk of committing the sin of pride I can say that we fans were right about it and the detractors wrong. I cannot understand how anyone could criticize a wine that has such a dark yet bright color, which is a bit lighter on the edge, with a nose that is so strongly balsamic and a mouthfeel that is so boldly expansive and interesting to leave one shell-shocked. Added to this the tannins are of exemplary finesse. For me this vintage perfectly demonstrates how a wine that in its youth was so difficult to understand can age and evolve.
