KrugID 117007 – dégorgement December 2017. A blend of 140 wines from 13 different harvests, the oldest being 1998, created around the one of 2010, a year marked by turbulent weather that kept the Chardonnay grapes from Côte des Blancs from expressing their usual freshness. This was counterbalanced by the vivacity of the Meunier from Sainte-Gemme and Courmas. The relatively young reserve wines were carefully selected and represent 42% of the blend, the most notable being those from 2000 for their structure and from Oger for their generous roundness, while 2006 wines from Verzy and Bouzy added a finishing touch. The composition of Krug Grande Cuvée 166ème Édition is 45% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay and 16% Pinot Meunier.
Fine and bold notes together with a distinct freshness rounded by sensations of linden honey, tangerine, quince apple, elder flower, red cherry, Valencia orange peel and verbena, with a finish rich in dried fruit, between fresh walnut and toasted barley, and cardamom and a persistence distinguished by dark citrus fruit and a taut and bracing fullness of candied ginger.
