Made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Here once again is the Gran Bussia that I once knew: that of the ’89 and ’90 vintages, to make myself quite clear; what once was – and in this version is once more – an absolute world-beater. This is an outstanding Barolo from Monforte, with a fairly intense garnet colour and sumptuous, complex aromas of tar, of violets and of tobacco, with some liquorice-like notes as well. But especially with an incomparable richness of flavour, with tannins that are held in thrall by the delicious concentration of the fruit, which is in turn underpinned by appropriate acidity, thus making the overall mouthfeel velvety and persuasive. The finish is long and slightly alcoholic. Serve it at 20°C, accompanied by beef tenderloin cooked in red wine, jugged hare or grilled red meats.
