Franciacorta Vittorio Moretti 2001

A not particularly regular year, which was essentially rather cold, with some rain during the harvest. It is made from 52% Chardonnay and 48% Pinot Nero grapes. It has a bright straw yellow colour and a fine, dense and slowly-rising perlage and is very complex on the nose, with a yeasty fragrance that then becomes faintly milk-like, with notes of toasted bread and yellow plums. It is very clear-cut and elegant on the palate, with tangy, creamy fruit that is nicely supported by the acidity, making it fresh and giving it good progression. A satisfyingly long, fine finish.
