Franciacorta Vittorio Moretti 1995

A splendid year: cool and with a late harvest, following rain in August and cool but clear weather in September. It is made from 52% Chardonnay and 48% Pinot Nero grapes. The nose displays extraordinary complexity, with suggestions of noble rot that hint at mushroom-like tones, but also mineral sensations. These give way to notes of lemon custard, chestnut honey and flint. The flavour is full, supple, complex and extremely creamy, tangy, warming and very long. A very great wine indeed.
