A regular year with a little rainfall in September. It is made from 65% Chardonnay and 35% Pinot Nero grapes. A deep golden yellow, it has a fine perlage with slowly rising bubbles, but these are now scarce. The nose is unusual, with balsamic hints and suggestions of sour oranges, candied citron and chestnut honey, giving way to almonds and biscuit-like notes. Its flavour is very creamy, evolved and tangy, but still lively. The way it has held up over time is fascinating, with just the merest hint of bitter almonds on the finish. This was the first Franciacorta vinified by Mattia Vezzola and it is still drinkable, even if it showing its age.
