The second vintage of Flaccianello was made in new barriques and following a new way to conceive wine for the time, in regard to both fermentation and maceration. This is a wine that with its cousins – Fontalloro Felsina, Cepparello from De Marchi and Montevertine’s Pergole Torte – re-wrote the history of Sangiovese in Chianti. Tasting this 35-year-old wine, which at the time was still in an experimental stage, one can see how the direction chosen was the right one, something only the stubborn would deny. The wine has an intense and bright garnet color and an almost moving aroma which still has light, fruity tones of black and Marasca cherry immersed in a sea of warm spice, intense and clean underbrush and blond tobacco. The mouthfeel is very classy with its dense acidity which allows for incredible progression and great satisfaction, while the finish is simply surprising for how pleasing and complex it is. Thank you for opening this bottle.
