The first of the reds is Erse 2009, a blend of Nerello Cappuccio, Nerello Mascalese and really tiny proportions of other grapes, from fairly young vines. It is a rather light, straightforward wine, with a fruity (strawberry) flavour. There are satisfying tannins in a wine that is correct and well-made, but which doesn’t provide much in the way of excitement.
