The name Abate Nero (Black Friar) is a reference to Pierre Pérignon, the famous ‘Dom’, the Benedcitine monk and father of French Champagne. The idea of making a sparkling wine came from Luciano Lunelli, Eugenio de Castel Terlago and a group of friends. They produced their first cuvée in 1975 and the result was terrific, a true Trentodoc. The Riserva is only made in the best years and it is a blend of 80% Chardonnay, 18% Pinot Noir and 2% Pinot Bianco that ferments and ages in both steel vats and wood barriques. After bottling it sits at least 48 months on the lees before disgorgement.
The color is a soft, golden-yellow with a thick and luminous bead. The nose is a delicate mix of wisteria and lily of the valley, pomelo and tangerine, peach and kiwi gelatin, almond cream pie and fresh aromatic herbs. The taste profile is linear and vigorous. A creamy effervescence upholds the acidic and savory flavor and ensures its long life and top quality.
