Made strictly respecting traditional winemaking and aging methods and above all using Nebbiolo grapes from Crichet del Pajé, the upper part of the I Paglieri vineyard which has more lime than the rest. The wine ages in wood for a period that varies depending on the vintage and this one spent ten years in the cellar. For some 2006 was an exceptional vintage while others disagree on the grounds it was a little hotter than others. But as the great Beppe Colla would say, Barbaresco is unbeatable in hotter years. This Crichet Pajé from Roagna has a clear and limpid garnet color and a very complex and exceptionally elegant aroma with notes of violet and dried flowers that then veer towards those of licorice, cinchona and currant. While extremely traditional, it is at the same time distinct without any rustic or imprecise scents. The mouthfeel is velvety and wrapping with just a hint of tannins, a composed and elegant warmth and an infinite persistence. While perhaps one of Italy’s most expensive wines, it is well worth every penny. A true masterpiece.
